Water Valve Restrictors

Water valve flow restrictors

Many domestic appliance water valves are fitted with flow restrictors in the valve outlet. It is important that any existing restrictor should be removed and fitted into the replacement valve.

Always check the old valve for a flow restrictor. These devices are used to adjust the flow of a standard water valve to suit the appliance requirements. The picture on the right shows a wash dryer valve with flow restrictor fitted in the right hand port. The flow on this port is reduced to a trickle for use in the dryer condenser

Retrictors are forced into the exit port and can not be pulled out of the valve. The best method of removal is to cut off the section of the exit port with the a junior hacksaw

The restrictor can often be forced though and out of the exit port with a drift.

If the restrictor is tight just use the junior hacksaw to cut along the length of the port taking care not to cut too deep.

Now the restrictor can be removed with ease. Use a drift to insert it into the replacement valve.
